The Best Startup Hubs and Coworking Spaces in Munich
From Garching to the city center, here are the places where Munich's startup community gathers.
Munich Urban Colab
Located in the Kreativquartier near Schwere-Reiter-Strasse, Munich Urban Colab is a joint venture between UnternehmerTUM and the City of Munich. It combines coworking space, a makerspace, and event areas under one roof.
This is where many early-stage teams work, and the building hosts regular events and workshops. If you want to bump into founders and investors on a daily basis, this is one of the best spots in the city.
UnternehmerTUM and the Garching campus
TUM's Garching campus is home to UnternehmerTUM, the TUM Venture Labs, and several startup incubators. The MakerSpace here gives founders access to prototyping equipment, from 3D printers to laser cutters.
The campus might be outside the city center, but it is the beating heart of Munich's deep tech startup scene. Many of the city's most promising startups got their start in Garching.
WERK1
WERK1 in the Werksviertel district near Ostbahnhof is Munich's dedicated digital startup hub. It offers office space for startups at various stages and runs accelerator programs.
The Werksviertel area itself is becoming a creative and tech district, with a mix of restaurants, event spaces, and other startups nearby. The location is excellent for teams that want to be in the city rather than on a campus.
Other notable spaces
Wayra, Telefonica's open innovation hub, is located downtown and supports startups working on telecommunications and digital services. Impact Hub Munich focuses on social entrepreneurship. WeWork and Design Offices have locations throughout the city for more traditional coworking.
The best space for you depends on your stage, your industry, and whether you prefer community or quiet. Visit a few before committing.
